Younger students at Yarra Junction to benefit from $2m redevelopment

Work is about to commence at Cire Community School Yarra Junction to create a dedicated Years 5 and 6 and Middle School precinct at the Little Yarra Road campus.

Costing almost $2 million, the project is being funded through a $1 million grant from the Victorian Government’s Capital Funding for Non-Government Schools Program, with the balance being met by Cire.

The project will involve redeveloping an existing building used by Cire’s Yarra Junction Children’s Centre.  As previously announced, the Children’s Centre is being relocated to a new multi-million dollar Early Years Learning Hub currently under construction on adjacent land and co-funded by the State Government and Cire.

Work on the Years 5 and 6, and Middle School area is being staged to ensure there is no disruption to service delivery at the Children’s Centre until the new Early Years Learning Hub is completed early next year.

The project will create a Years 5/6 and Middle School building encompassing four general learning areas, flexible student wellbeing areas, outdoor learning spaces, staff office and meeting rooms, staff and student amenities, storage spaces, plus associated external works and landscaping.

Peri Dix, Cire’s Executive Manager Education, described the redevelopment as an exciting chapter for Cire Community School and, more specifically, the Yarra Junction campus.

“It is important that our younger students have a dedicated area while at the same time being very much part of the overall campus and school community,” Peri said.

“The new area will enhance their sense of belonging, pride and engagement in their learning journey.”

Yarra Junction was the first of Cire Community School’s campuses when it commenced in 2015 as Yarra Valley Community School. In 2021, Years 5 and 6 were introduced.

Responding to the continually growing need for an alternative to mainstream education for at-risk youth, Cire Community School also has campuses at Berwick and Lilydale. Its newest campus at Monbulk’s former Mountain District Christian School will commence in 2024.

It is an exciting time for the Cire Community School, and many are looking forward to the fruition of this project in providing students with a dedicated Years 5 and 6 and Middle School precinct.
