There are no pre-requisites or course entry requirements for this course. However, you will need to have a moderate level of literacy and numeracy skills in order to read and interpret workplace documents, including chemical labels. You also require the physical ability to work in an environment where lifting, carrying, physical labour and manual handling are required.
You are required to wear appropriate clothing (long trousers, shirts and work boots) when attending your VCAL Horticulture class.
You must also wear a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses or safety glasses when conditions require.
Inappropriate shoes and clothing are an Occupational Health and Safety hazard and you will not be able to participate in the practical activities.
At all times you must work in a safe manner, adhering to relevant policies, procedures and laws.
The Certificate II in Horticulture can pathway into any number of Certificate III courses from the general Certificate III in Horticulture to Certificates in Natural Area Restoration, Retail Nursery, Agriculture, Arboriculture and Parks and Gardens, through to Diploma and Advance Diploma level qualifications in Horticulture, Nursery Management or Organic Farming.
