JUNIOR SECONDARY PROGRAM
“One of my projects is podcasts which I’m really interested in.” Cody, Year 9 student
Cire Community School’s Middle Secondary Program specifically focuses on the needs of students in years 7 to 9 and includes Precal 9 which offers a pathway to the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).
Our Middle Secondary Program specifically focuses on the needs of students in years 7 to 9 and includes Precal 9 which offers a pathway to the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).
We have small class sizes and well-designed classrooms, both of which help maximise learning opportunities. Mirroring a primary school model, students work with one core teacher for the majority of their studies.
The program includes individual passion projects to encourage students to take control of their learning and also a range of offsite opportunities to engage with the local community and to take their learning beyond the classroom.
We recognise that Year 9 is a particularly significant time for students as they transition towards their senior secondary education. Our Year 9 curriculum is underpinned by an engaging hands-on focus through initiatives such as social enterprises.
We are proud of our reputation for engaging our students through hands-on and flexible learning opportunities.
Our Middle Secondary Program features individual passion projects which enable students to take control of their learning by focusing on a topic of personal interest. For many, these projects are a highlight of their week. Equally important, our students have a range of opportunities to engage with the local community and to take their learning beyond the classroom.
We enjoy strong community links through projects which further develop and refine applied learning activities, as well as support local sustainability initiatives. Our projects have included establishing a ‘frog bog’, landscaping and planting, building rammed-earth structures and experimenting with the construction of straw bale walls.
Our Year 9 curriculum is underpinned by an engaging hands-on focus with initiatives such as a student-run social enterprise canteen where the Year 9s are responsible for the menu, food ordering and preparation and also mastering the commercial standard coffee machine.
An exciting addition this year will be a commercial kitchen to enhance our Hospitality program.
We are proud of our comprehensive and proactive wellbeing program designed to positively engage and support our students.
With our team of highly qualified wellbeing officers and external specialist service practitoners, we actively create and foster a sense of safety among our students, providing the best possible foundation for learning. We focus on the individual wellbeing goals of our young people and their recognised strengths.
We have a dedicated team of qualified staff who are committed to empowering our students through flexible learning opportunities and launching them on pathways for a positive and fulfilling future.
