As of 2023, the VCAL Certificate is being replaced by two entirely new Senior School Certificates;
- The Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC), and
- The VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM)
These senior certificates are underpinned by the 5 Pillars of Applied Learning, extending on our existing flexible, hands-on approach to learning at Cire Community School. Students and teachers will work together to identify personal goals and interests in line with creating an individual learning plan.
The purpose of the new Senior Certificates is to provide students with the best opportunity to grow, develop and learn by:
- equipping them with the skills, knowledge, values and capabilities to be active and informed citizens, lifelong learners and confident and creative individuals; and
- empowering them to make informed decisions about the next stages of their lives through real-life workplace experiences.
Students can work their way through a selected Senior Certificate to obtain a secondary qualification, transition into work or further study, or engage with a school-based apprenticeship/traineeship. Students enrolled in VCE Vocational Major must also undertake a VET subject in order to gain their certificate.
The two Senior Certificates are designed to be flexible, hands-on and individualised to meet student interests and needs. The curriculum accommodates student aspirations, future learning and employment goals. Learning programs in the Senior Certificates are aimed to present students with industry experiences and build connections to the community. Through engagement in the Senior Certificates, students will gain the knowledge and skills they will need to transition to the next stage of their learning or working journey.
Why choose us?
At Cire Community School we do things differently.
Year levels are modelled on a primary school structure where students have one classroom and one teacher for the majority of their core study. This enables the development of strong and positive relationships between the student and their teacher and within their peer group, facilitating a safe and supportive learning environment.
The curriculum is designed to engage students in their learning while maintaining a strong emphasis on key literacy, numeracy, Work Related Skills (WRS) and Personel Development Skills (PDS). Integrated units of work and a project-based learning approach allow students to explore their interests and passions and engage with their community.
We focus on hands-on learning experiences, building partnerships with the local community and providing opportunities for interaction with the natural surroundings. Community partnerships enable students to access unique, authentic and interesting learning that also help develop social, interpersonal, work-related skills and a sense of connection to community.
We are proud of our comprehensive and proactive wellbeing program designed to positively engage and support our students.
With our team of highly qualified wellbeing officers and external specialist service practitioners, we actively create and foster a sense of safety among our students, providing the best possible foundation for learning. We focus on the individual wellbeing goals of our young people and their recognised strengths.
We have a dedicated team of qualified staff who are committed to empowering our students through flexible learning opportunities and launching them on pathways for a positive and fulfilling future.
