Vocational Education and Training (VET)

provides secondary school students an opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification that contributes to VCE or VCAL. These programs are delivered by trainers with expert knowledge in the field and increase the employability skills of students.

VET in Schools is a fantastic opportunity for young people to build industry experience and gain relevant qualifications in their fields.

About the program

Entry requirements

Students choosing to enrol in a VETiS program
must be:

at least 15 years of age at course commencement,
able to meet LLN requirements, and
currently enrolled in Year 10, 11 or 12.

Course costs

Cire Services will charge your school directly for tuition and material fees. Your school may decide to pass on a portion of this cost to students (usually material fees if attending a Government school).

Course Withdrawal

Students have up to four weeks from the commencement date to withdraw from the course.

Withdrawals after the 4-week census date will
incur full fees.

Education support

In accordance with the Disability Standards for Education 2005, Cire Training provides “reasonable adjustments” to accommodate students with disabilities and will consult with students and their families / carers to understand what kind of assistance is needed.

Additionally, Cire Training provides smaller class sizes and flexible learning options to cater to students with additional needs. Support staff are also available upon request and Cire Training will work closely with the student’s secondary school to ensure that their learning experience is a positive and fulfilling one.

Structured workplace learning

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) is designed to help students apply the skills and knowledge they learn in their VET program in an industry environment.

Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) experiences help students relate theory to a real world work environment while developing their skills.

SWL is a valuable component of all VET qualifications, and where possible should be spread across the duration of the VET program.

It provides context for:

enhancement of skills development
practical application of industry knowledge
assessment of units of competency/modules, as determined by the Registered Training prganisation
increased employment opportunities.

VCE VET program publications contain information relating to the SWL requirements. In all cases, SWL is strongly recommended. Several VCE VETiS programs have a mandated SWL component.

The SWL requirements are expressed in hours and weeks, and are expected to be carried out over the duration of VCE VET programs.
