We're often asked whether the school offers electives. At Cire, students can select from various programs, including photography, cooking and even gym class. A group of students from our gym elective completed a boxing training session with Joel from @uft_berwick in Berwick. UFIT helps members to feel comfortable in their own skin while being surrounded by great people who build, support, challenge, and allow them to grow - we think that resonates very well with us.
We are proud to share that the Cire Community School has been featured on the front of the Star Mail News Education Week 2022 edition for the fourth year in a row! The Trades Fit - Young Women in Trades and Tech Expo was a huge hit with the young women who attended. The students embraced the opportunities available and walked away with bags and buckets full of information about the pathways available to them in trade and tech. The Expo provided a rare chance for these young women to explore the many different trades and technologies out there and get first-hand advice from people in the know. It was clear from the students' enthusiastic response that this is an area where they feel they can excel. With the right support, young women will achieve great things in the trades and technology sector, and this event showcased the possibilities. Hosted by the Department of Education and Training. The Expo presented employment options within the trades and tech industries. Introducing female students in years 9 and 10 to career pathways in traditionally male-dominated industries, providing information about how they can pursue exciting career opportunities in these fields. #connectwithcire #cirecommunityschool #tradefitexpo #tradesforwomen #tradecareers #becomeatradie
Some of our VCAL students spent a session running activities with the grade 5/6 class in Yarra Junction. The students had a great time playing some games, walking around the campus, taking photos together, and learning about how electric model railways worked! Cire Community School prides itself on providing opportunities for students to connect and learn across the year levels.

The students at Cire's Yarra Junction campus participated in some healthy competition with our own version of "MasterChef". Each week the students have gone head-to-head creating different recipes and learning a range of valuable kitchen skills. This week the students made a hearty vegetable soup 🥕🍲 "This is to get us used to making food in the kitchen to be more independent and make our own meals,” said one of the students. #connectwithcire #cooking #education #yarraranges

The team at our Yarra Junction campus were highly impressed by VCAL student Roxy's initiative to write a formal request for permission to bring her new puppy Scoota to school as part of her obedience and handling training. Roxy conducted a risk assessment, developed criteria for peer handling and documented a review of the experience. The following are extracts from her submissions: "I believe this short visit will benefit both the puppy and my peers. We aim to encourage the puppy's social skills and expose her to different environments when she is young to boost her development and coping skills... Studies have shown it boosts dopamine and motivates learning... I enjoyed the experience, and I think most other people did too... it definitely benefited people to have her at the start of the day and to start off on a good note and a happy note." Experiences like these allow students to develop a range of skills, including communication, organisation and planning, risk assessment, and reflection.
Middle school student Fraser has enjoyed using the programming software and 3D printer on campus. He had the idea to design and print promotional Cire "trolley tokens" for the recent open night held at the Yarra Junction Campus. Fraser successfully achieved several learning outcomes through this innovative and self-driven project. The result is a fantastic product that the school, and most importantly, Fraser can be very proud of. #educationbutbetter #coolaustralia #teaching #independentschool #school #learningoutcomes
It is with great pride that we announce Cire Community School’s student, Cameron (Cammy) was presented with the inaugural “Cowey Selman Kokoda Award” at the ANZAC Day service in Monbulk. The award was made available to Year 11 students throughout the Shire of Yarra Ranges and was created to encourage young people to research and understand the significance of the Kokoda campaign. Cammy’s submission was recognised for its accurate reflection of the sacrifices made as well as her own experience with adversity and, like those who served, her willingness to strive to create positive change. (Blog post to come later this week) The scholarship will provide Cammy with an all-expenses paid 10-day walk of the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea and visit historical sites along the way with @getawaytrekkingaus The award is the initiative of the 39th Infantry Battalion (1941-43) Association Inc. and the Mt Evelyn RSL, Monbulk RSL - Sub Branch inc Lilydale RSL

Young people attending with their families could relate to our student's experiences, coming from similar circumstances and mentioned how great it was to meet current students. Everyone who attended said how great it was to chat with students and see first-hand the difference Cire has made in their lives. Well done team!

The year 11 students at our yarra junction campus embraced the power of Peer Education by teaching the junior students how to make the infamous YJ fairy cakes. These peer lead lessons allow the senior students to develop a range of skills, including maths, leadership and communication. For our junior students, these educational experiences help build confidence, organisation and planning, and a sense of connectedness. These fairy cakes didn't last long, with campus-wide ratings of 10/10 deliciousness, which would even get a happy smile from Gordon Ramsay! Join us at our upcoming open day (April 4th from 5pm-7pm) and taste some goodies prepared by the students. Please share your favourite recipe below, our students would love to have a go at making them. #peereducation #authenticlearning #schoolbutbetter #community
